The stratosphere, the region of the EarthΓÇÖs atmosphere between roughly 12 and 50 km (8 and 30 miles) above the surface, is a crucial component in the Earth's environment. Much of the importance of the stratosphere stems from its absorption of the bulk of solar ultraviolet radiation.
